Venue: Bookazine Social, Shop G03-07, G/F, Parade Ground, Tai Kwun, (Former) Central Police Station, 10 Hollywood Road, Central, Hong Kong

Inclusion:

  • A5 size sketching paper
  • Ink pen
  • 3 printings of an iconic cityscape/architecture per participants
  • Each participant will receive a Paper with Pen illustration gift.

*This workshop takes place inside and is not an outdoor sketching workshop.

 

Description:

Paper with Pen is a Hong Kong-based design company dedicated to celebrating the city’s distinctive cityscape through illustration. Our product line includes postcards, framed prints, and tote bags, all showcasing intricate sketches of the city’s iconic landmarks. These creations are now featured in many high-profile retail stores, including the M+ Museum shop, Hong Kong International Airport, and Bookazine stores.
 
This workshop will be guided by Michael, founder of the design brand Paper with Pen. You will start with observation and learn how to measure object proportions, grasp the principles of spatial perspective and shading techniques, and understand methods for hatching textures. Using fineliners, you will sketch out detailed Hong Kong architecture, streetscapes, and city views, capturing the beauty of our city into your postcard!

 

Breakdown:

  1. Self-intro and foundational sketching techniques (15 mins)
  2. Demonstrations (20 mins)
  3. Sketching exercise - an iconic Hong Kong architecture/streetscape/cityscape (60 mins)
  4. Critique and Gift session (10 mins)

Images selected for sketching:
  1. Architecture theme: Mido Cafe (For participants interested in modernist architecture in Hong Kong in the 50s)
  2. Street scape theme: Chun Yeung Street Market (For participants interested in traditional market scene/shop signs/transportation of Hong Kong)
  3. Cityscape theme: Victoria Harbour (For participants interested in the wider landscape of Hong Kong)

1. Liability Disclaimer: The organizers take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of participants. However, they are not liable for any personal injury, loss, or damage incurred during the event. By attending, you waive any claims against the organizers, their staff, and venue owners.

2. Non-Refundable Tickets: All tickets purchased are non-refundable. In the event of a cancellation or rescheduling, options will be determined at the discretion of the event host, subject to availability.

3. Weather-Related Cancellations: If a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above, or a Black Rainstorm Warning is issued, the event may be rescheduled or cancelled based on feasibility. Refund policies for such cancellations will be communicated in due course.

4. Product Collection: If your ticket includes a book or any product, you must collect it within one month of the event date. Failure to do so will result in the product being voided.

5. Code of Conduct: Attendees are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and courteous manner. 

6. Photography and Recording: Please be aware that photos and videos may be taken during the event for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, please inform the host before the event begins.

7. Age Restrictions: Participants under the age of 18 must have parental consent to attend the event.

8. Email Sharing: Please note that email addresses may be shared with the event partner or host provider for communication purposes. If you do not wish for your email to be shared, please inform us before the event.
